#CleanUpThe
Block
While so many of us were taught to do the best we could to get the furthest we could from our neighborhoods, it’s time to take pride in where we come from and show that pride. Buying back the block is imperative to creating the environment we can be proud of, in the mean-time, we can do our part in cleaning up our block – giving the youth and our elders, equally, something they can take pride in. Let’s shine our light into the darkness that threatened to eat us up while we grew up in a time that wasn’t promising or encouraging. WE will thus share a promise and a hope that we can re-build, re-member, and re-affirm that we carry greatness and royalty in our DNA.

Resources
1. Get the word out!
Click link to download a free pdf that you can edit to get the word out on your community clean up day! Word of mouth is your best tool, you can use these flyers as a way to pass along information to some of the active members of your communities (moms) and other leaders. You can go to local churches, school, and stores to place these. Pass the word along to your acquaintances on social networks (ie- posts, facebook events, etc.)
2. Connect with community leaders & Network
Like keeping your room clean, one time isn’t enough. You have to build the good habits that will keep it clean instead of leaving it for some day in the future. Talk to the people at your event – invite the kids in to tell their experience and the elders to tell theirs. We will all learn from one another – it’s in the fabric of who we are to form community. Keeping the block clean will also get you connected and bring you together. Make it a goal to talk to people you don’t know and form bonds/events for the future. It takes a village – but we’ve abandoned those bonds for too long. It’s time to get back to our core.
3. Next Steps
Don’t forget to tag #CleanUptheBlock and challenge other communities to do the same in their neighborhoods. Each one teach one. We have the power to make a difference in our neighborhood and to get to know our neighbors so we can all rise together. The more wealth individuals build, the more wealth the collective builds. There is no shortage of resources and everyone can eat. Use this as a stepping stool to start committees that can teach financial literacy, our history, etc.
